PANJIM: G R Kare College of Law at Margao, which came under strong criticism of Goa University (GU) for violating admission norms, has agreed to reduce the intake of first year students from the prescribed 60 to 38 this academic year.
The college has, however, said the varsity was aware of excess students being admitted for the three year LLB course.
“We have respected the decision of GU and for this academic year we have decided to admit only 38 students for the 3 year LLB Degree Programme,” College Principal A S Nadkarni said in a statement.
Responding to the allegations of violating admission norms, the college stated that it admitted students with full knowledge of the GU. “The list of admitted students was duly sent to the university and relevant fees in respect of the admitted students were also paid to GU,” Nadkarni said.
He elaborated that in their letter to GU before the commencement of the academic year, a request was made for permission to accommodate additional students. However, GU replied in mid-August 2015. “It is significant to note that even in August 2015, the University did not decline to give permission neither did it raise any objection to the admission of additional 22 students,” he said.
