PONDA: The villagers of Karmale in Querim Panchayat, have demanded a ban on miscreants bathing in Karmale waterfall and causing nuisance in the area.
The villagers have submitted a memorandum to Mardol police, Ponda Mamlatdar in this regard and have sought action against the miscreants causing nuisance.
Acting on their complaint, the Mardol police also started patrolling at Karmale waterfall. Locals are now expecting panchayat resolution to curb nuisance at the waterfall. The villagers urged the authorities to curb the miscreants venturing in Bhootkhamb area to explore the Karmale waterfall.
Villagers are facing a lot of hardships due to the nuisance created by the people venturing to the Karmale waterfall for swimming and other activities.
“Every rainy season, hundreds of people visit that spot on a daily basis. There’s a lot of rush, especially on weekends. The crowd disturbs our peace and creates all sorts of nuisance to harm the nature and water spring, which locals use,” the villagers have said in their memorandum.
According to the locals, various illegal activities are also taking place, which includes use of narcotic substances.
“There are also dangerous trenches filled with water, where people have drowned. Moreover, people visiting this area carry their liquor, soft drinks and water bottles and other food packages, which are dumped at spot. This has not just polluted the surrounding areas, but has also the spring water which we used to use for daily purposes,” the villagers said.
“Being locals, we are trying to control the nuisance. But it has given rise to conflict with the miscreants visiting the spot. We fear that things may go out of control in that area.
Presently our villagers, especially women are afraid to visit these areas alone, especially the women. This has impacted the farming activities also and we request you to please take necessary action on the miscreants. We suggest closure of the gate at the Bhootkhamb plateau for the outsiders,” the villagers stated in their memorandum.
