BICHOLIM: The Karnataka Nirawari Nigam (KNN) has brazenly restarted the work on Kalsa Bhandura canal after a gape of around one year, in contempt of an order passed by Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT). Sources say the KNN restarted work of cross regulators on Thursday.
It may be recalled that at the last hearing, MWDT had prohibited Karnataka government from diverting 70 TMC of water for its own use. The tribunal had also ordered Karnataka not to go ahead with the canal work.
Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar said by restarting this work, Karnataka has created a new headache for Goa. He also informed that chief engineer Sandeep Nadkarni, who inspected the site, has expressed concern over this development. The Tribunal will hear the case in March 2017.
