PANJIM/Margao: Socorro Zilla Panchayat member Kartik Kudnekar and Sirsaim ZP member Diksha Kanolkar will be elected unopposed as Chairperson and Deputy respectively of the North Goa Zilla Panchayat body, while 3-time ZP member Suvarna Prabhu Tendulkar is set to become the Chairman and Kushali Velip Vice Chairperson of the South Goa ZP.
Kudnekar and Kanolkar, representing BJP, on Thursday filed their nominations for the posts. Being the only nominations, the members are set to be elected unopposed. The official announcement will be made on Friday.
The deputy chairperson post being reserved for women, Kanolkar, a two-time ZP member, was selected unanimously by the BJP State leadership.
The office of the ZP South received only one nomination each for Chairman and Vice-Chairman on Thursday.
The Officer in charge said the nominations have been proposed by 4 persons each and were received on Thursday morning. The ZP of Cortalim Anita Thorat who was said to be the front-runner for the post after being elected unopposed was the proposer for the candidature of Suvarna Prabhu Tendulkar. Kushali Velip is set to become Vice Chairman.
Tendulkar said she is vouching on the promise of the BJP Government to devolve powers to the ZPs of Goa and also said she will complete the works from the constituencies that have been pending in the previous term.
