On a representation from Goa Kannada Maha Sangh president Siddanna Meti, Karnataka Minister R V Deshpande took up the issue with his Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who issued the directions to Collector Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, IAS.
In his representation, Meti pleaded with Deshpande to provide a rehabilitation package for those who shanties at Baina beach were demolished on Saturday.
“I met the South Goa Collector Sachin Shinde for information on the Baina demolition and also met the affected people,” Ghosh told reporters after visiting the demolition site on Sunday.
The displaced residents gave Ghosh all the details of the demolition, including how the State administration had disconnected their water and power connections, leaving them to face hardships.

Meanwhile, with no alternate quarters and being too poor to afford rented premises, several of the displaced residents have taken shelter under tarpaulin sheets and rickshaws.
