PANJIM: The order on the anticipatory bail application of Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavalekar in the disproportionate assets case is likely to be pronounced on October 5.
The Principal Sessions Judge reserved the court after hearing arguments from the prosecution and the defence counsel for over a month. The investigation agency has sought Kavalekar’s custodial interrogation claiming that he has till date failed to justify the source of money from which he purchased properties worth crores of rupees in Kerala.
Goa Police had registered a First Information Report (FIR ) against Kavalekar in September last year wherein his wife, Savitri has also been charged with abetting him in amassing assets disproportionate to their known source of income.
The FIR was registered after nearly four years of a preliminary inquiry. According to the ACB, he had not disclosed the details of 14 different properties purchased by him in Kerala in his assets and liabilities statement submitted before the Goa Lokayukta between 2013 and 2015.
