PANJIM: Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar has decided to call a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) to ask the MLAs to join the rally of the mining affected people at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. While extending support to the Goa Mining People’s Front that has called the rally, Kavalekar said they will also meet AICC president Rahul Gandhi over the amendment sought for restarting mining in the State.
“My party extends unconditional support to mining affected people of Goa. I and GPCC president Girish Chodankar will surely attend the rally to be held at Jantar Mantar and very soon I will call a CLP meeting to request all our CLP members to join the rally. I will also request our Goa desk in charge Chellakumar to attend the rally. We will again meet our National president Rahul Gandhi to brief him about our support to the amendment to be tabled in the Parliament,” he said in a media statement on Saturday.
The party slammed the BJP-led government for having failed to handle the mining issue. “It is very clear that the government has no concrete plan to restart mining. They are just giving fake promises. The BJP leaders seem to be more interested in fooling the people than in actual action,” he said.
He added that the letter to the Governer, Chief Minister and Speaker urging for a one-day special Assembly session has not received any response.
