PANJIM: The desperation of the forces against Luizinho Faleiro is getting more and more obvious. The CLP leader Babu Kavalekar, held a press conference  today to “confirm” that GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro’s resignation has been “accepted” by the High Command, when Faleiro, himself has “no clue”.
Kavalekar told reporters on Wednesday ,“The party high command has accepted the resignation of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Luizinho Faleiro and a decision on his successor will be taken by AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi in the coming days.”
While the acceptance of his resignation, is very likely given the fact that the GPCC president is holding his ground on his resignation, it is clear that Kavalekar, backed by power hungry ex-Chief Ministers, has jumped the gun by “confirming” the acceptance of the resignation.
Faleiro told Herald, “I have no clue about the acceptance. I’m not even aware if Mr Rahul Gandhi is back in India. All I can say is that I’m firm and I do not wish to continue.”
This belies Kavalekar’s outlandish claim that the High Command had conveyed the acceptance to Goa Congress MLAs. However he is right when he said, “Faleiro told us that the party leadership was not ready to accept his resignation but he requested that it be accepted. The high command too informed us of the same.”
Meanwhile, senior Congressman and Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik’s name has been proposed by the state unit as the next GPCC president. Naik tenure as RS member ends next month.
Sources said that almost all MLAs have supported Naik’s candidature as next GPCC chief and conveyed this to Goa desk in-charge Dr Chellakumar.
The party will hold elections to the State Party President and Vice-President, along with the executive committee, between September 16 and October 15, this year.
Faleiro, tendering his resignation last week, had said that a “couple of senior leaders are claiming that they can form the government in present scenario and feel that my continuation creates a hindrance to the formation of the government,” and added, “I would request you to relieve me of my responsibilities.”
