PANJIM: Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar, who filed a fresh anticipatory bail application before the North Goa District and Sessions Court in the disproportionate assets case being investigated by Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), was granted interim relief from arrest till the final disposal of the petition. The Court also issued notices to ACB returnable by March 15.
The Principal Sessions Court in South Goa last week had dismissed the anticipatory bail plea, for want of jurisdiction. While dismissing the application, the court had extended Kavlekar’s interim bail by eight days allowing him time to approach the relevant court for anticipatory bail.
ACB had objected to granting Kavlekar anticipatory bail on grounds that the South Goa Sessions Judge did not have jurisdiction to entertain the application. Accepting the ACB argument, the Principal Sessions Judge had dismissed the application.
Kavlekar had filed the application for anticipatory bail after he was summoned by ACB in the disproportionate assets case.
