Kavlem, Bandora villagers fed up with frequent power cuts

PONDA: The villagers residing in Kavlem and Bandora said they are fed up with frequent power breakdowns that sometimes last for two to three hours during the day and even at night causing tremendous hardships.

The villagers urged the Electricity department to immediately find out faults in power supply and rectify it at the earliest. They said power department failed to find faults despite regular power outages.

A local Navnath Naik said, “The frequent power failures, locals witness long power breakdown lasting up to two to three hours during night time.”

Tulishidas Naik at Bandora said people are facing lot of hardships. The situation becomes even more difficult for commuters, who have to travel through the pothole ridden roads during night time. The visibility becomes poor as street lights don’t function due to power shut down.

“At night time when street lights are not operating, it becomes difficult to spot potholes. This makes commuters vulnerable to accidents,” he said.

Even the traders in panchayat areas have to bear the financial loss due to power failures. While the children’s studies are suffering, the villagers the risk of vector-borne diseases is very high due to mosquito bites at night, in absence of power.

The shopkeepers said that the milk products were getting spoiled as their fridge and other electrical appliances were not working.

When contacted, the senior officials of power department rejected the claims about frequent power breakdowns.

They however said that since past few days, heavy rains have led to incidents of tree falling on power lines, leading to power failures.
