PONDA: Kavlem gram sabaha on Sunday adopted a resolution opposing curtailment of the powers of panchayat to issue construction licences.
The gram sabha observed that a recent circular of the Directorate of Panchayat setting restrictions on issuing construction licences is an infringement of the powers of the panchayats. “This will deprive the panchayats of their major revenue that they are getting from multi-dwelling and commercial projects,” a villager said.
According to Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar, the director of panchayts has ordered the BDO to restrict the panchayats from exercising power to issue construction licence and occupancy certificate until compliance of solid and waste management rules.
“On the one hand, the panchayat is facing shortage of revenue and on other, the government is depriving them of their rights to issue licence and earn revenue,” Kavlekar said.
The panchayat also adopted a resolution to construct a wet garbage disposal site at two places in Kavlem.
The locals also demanded that government find a suitable solution to the increasing dog population.
On haphazard and dangerous truck parking on Dhavlim Farmagudi road, Sarpanch Kavlekar said, “Many locals are involved in transport business. However, those who do not have space for truck parking will not be allowed to carry out this business. Action will be taken on them.”
