Kavlem locals against religious mutt coming up in village

PONDA: Kavlem locals with the support of Aggressive Goans on Sunday strongly objected to the new spiritual mutt coming up in the village.

The locals alleged that this is the sixth such mutt coming up at Kavlem. Work of land filling is carried out at night by converting agricultural land, they said.

The locals said earlier some ashrams with migrant residents had destroyed their village hills when constructing their premises.

The Kavlem locals suspect these ashrams to be politicians’ vote banks and wonder why hospitals are not being built instead.

Santosh Tari, convenor of Aggressive Goans, said they had filed complaints against land filling and violation of TCP rules at Kavlem with the Deputy Collector who had directed the Mamlatdar to inquire into the case.

Tari said the 12,500 sq mt is being converted into a non-agricultural land from a cultivable area.

“Since the land filling work is carried out at night, alleged to be illegal, locals face flooding in their houses,” Tari said.

According to locals this is the sixth mutt coming up in Marcaim Constituency.

Vinay Borkar, a local, said “some of the mutt builders are not allowing Goans to enter the site. We often see Maharashtra registration vehicles parked on the construction site,” said Borkar.

“The outsiders are building these mutts in connivance with some locals. The owner of a land gave power of attorney to one mutt builder at Kavlem, who has already started construction,” Tari added.
