PONDA: The Kavlem locals on Saturday urged the Electricity Department to replace the old power supply lines that have several joints stretching from Shantadurga Temple to Khadpaband road.

According to the locals, “These are very old power supply lines which are weak and may snap any time at any joint. So it must be replaced urgently.”

“A week ago one of the live wires fell on the road due to which four stray dogs died instantly on the spot. Luckily, the locals, who witnessed the incident, alerted the people going for the evening walks on this road. The wires are old and have many joints which can snap any time during the stormy winds,” they claimed.

Kavlem-Khadpaband roadside has been constructed with walking track and people use it for morning and evening walks. This road is also connected to Dhavlim-Farmagudi National Highway Bypass. Besides, local vehicles, tourist vehicles also visit the Shantadurga Temple.

As there are houses along this road, the locals fear that if the overhead power supply wires with several joints snap it may invite risk to their lives just like the stray dogs incident.

Kavlem Panchayat Sarpanch demanded that the Electricity Department give attention to this problem and immediately replace the old wires.
