PONDA: Queula (Kavlem) Panchayat on Wednesday decided to spend Rs 50,000 from the panchayat funds towards relief work in the area affected due to gusty winds.
It may be recalled that gusty winds on the night of August 1 brought down huge trees damaging several houses in Kavlem. The incident also left three members of a family injured. As many as 20 trees came crashing down damaging about 14 houses.
“Through the Madhavrao Dhavlikar Trust, financial help of about Rs 1.25 lakh has been already provided to the residents and another Rs 4 lakh has been spent to procure material required to repair the houses. Some houses have been repaired and there are at least three houses that require more work,” informed Kavlem Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar.
“Through panchayat, we have decided to contribute Rs 50,000 on the cost incurred on labour and other minor works. A decision in this regard was taken during Wednesday’s panchayat meeting,” added Kavlekar.
