PONDA: Taking cognisance that the fire personnel will be unable to attend several emergency calls of Ponda Taluka, Kavlem Village Panchayat sarpanch and team of villagers bracing the cyclonic winds and heavy rains cleared the road blockades and several uprooted trees fallen on the houses at Kavlem.
Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar informed Herald that the government should form a disaster team in every village so that at the time of emergency people can get some immediate relief if the uprooted trees fall on the houses and roads, causing traffic blockades, which can be cleared immediately.
“Almost in all wards, there are damages caused due to Cyclone Tauktae. Electricity supply lines and poles are damaged and it would take atleast two days to restore the power supply,” said Kavlekar.
The villagers said that they faced lots of hardships in clearing trees with koyta and added that the government should provide every panchayat with tree cutters operating on fuel, which will be a great help in the future, if the fire personnel can’t reach immediately.
Several calls remained unattended by the fire personnel. However, teams of sarpanch, NGO, villagers, MGP at Ponda led by Dr Ketan Bhatikar cleared several uprooted trees which fell on the houses, roads and electricity supply lines.
