PONDA: Kavlem villagers has demanded traffic safety measures at Don -Khambe (two pillars) junction including painting of divider lines on the road.
According to locals, the junction is at a prime location on the main road leading to Kavlem. Not only commuters from Kavlem, but those from four other panchayats viz. Wadi Talavali, Durbhat Adpoi Agapur, Bandora and Marcaim travel through this three-road junction. However, without any provisions for traffic safety, chaos occurs and the junction turns into an accident prone zone.
Further, this junction is located on a sharp turn and a slope, while one road passes straight towards Durbhat. Hence, in order
to slow down vehicles, speed breakers and sign boards need to be installed at this junction.
In the past, a bike rider from Talavali died in an accident at this junction. Since Kavlem is a
tourist destination, locals have demanded to put in place proper safety measures such as road divider lines, so that traffic from one lane does not cross over to the wrong lane at this junction. This would help in preventing accidents, they argued.
