KBM students awarded scholarships

MARGAO: Three students of Konkani Bhasha Mandal’s High School who answered their SSC examination this year were presented with scholarships instituted by the Nadkarni family in memory of Hirabai Nadkarni an ancestor of the family.

MARGAO: Three students of Konkani Bhasha Mandal’s High School who answered their SSC examination this year were presented with scholarships instituted by the Nadkarni family in memory of Hirabai Nadkarni an ancestor of the family.
The recipients of the scholarships were Ashelsha Redkar, Nikil Varadkar and Sahil Mulgund who while accepting the scholarship said it will help him take the first small step to realize his big dream.
Dr Abhijeet Nadkarni while pointing out that socio-economic deprivation tends to be transferred to generations and since only education can stop it, said his family decided to institute the scholarships to help such deprived students forge ahead in their lives.
Chetan Acharya, President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal said while examinations only test the memory of the child, the need of the hour is to inculcate the sense that with democracy comes responsibility that has to be fulfilled by all.
KBM Chairman Prashant Naik revealed the hardships students of his including he had to study due to financial constraints and said that he was proud to have been a part of the movement that got 50 per cent concession for students as during those days colleges were only in the major towns.
Dr. Sachin Shinde the chief guest shared his experiences of working to  in Bihar to impart lifeskill education there and said the biggest achievement was making the students look at what they have instead of complaining on what they do not have.
