PANJIM: Even as he picked up plastic waste and assorted garbage from Panjim’s Miramar Beach on Saturday, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urged Goans and tourists to stop littering, and continue the coastal and ocean cleanup campaign throughout the year. International Coastal Clean-up Day drives were held at 37 beaches across Goa- 17 beaches in North Goa and 20 beaches in South Goa. Coastal Clean-up Day is part of a 75-day campaign to raise awareness about keeping beaches and oceans pollution-free.

“For the first time, all the stakeholders have taken part in the coastal clean-up. We will take up this campaign throughout the year and create awareness, to pass on the benefits of a blue economy to future generations,” said Sawant.

The Clean-up Day activities were organised by Goa’s Department of Tourism, Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. Apart from Sawant, Goa Governor P S Pillai, Tourism Minister of State Shripad Naik, Panaji MLA Atanasio Monseratte, St. Cruz MLA Rudolfo Fernandes, BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanawade and others participated in the drive at Miramar Beach.
