Kejri reassures Vasco, Baina fishermen

VASCO: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Goa on Tuesday afternoon and interacted with the fishermen community at Khariwado in Vasco on Tuesday.

Kejriwal is on a two-day visit to the State and he will also be interacting with small hoteliers at Calangute on Wednesday.
Equating the problems fishermen in Goa have to poor people in Delhi he said, “Like Goans cannot survive without fish, Goa cannot survive without fishermen. It is sad that poor fishermen in Goa have to fight for the livelihood which is being snatched by the government. We will not allow anyone’s livelihood to be affected or home to be demolished.” The fishermen presented five different memorandums to Kejriwal and requested him to find ways to resolve the same at his level.
While the fishing community from Khariwado spoke about the sword of demolition on their houses as well as MPT’s dredging operations at Vasco bay which is a threat to their operations, the fishing community from Baina highlighted GCZMA’s demolition notice threatening their operations and shelter. Similarly, fish vendors from Vasco spoke about the proposed fish market project, which has been planned without taking them into confidence.
Speaking on corruption, Kejriwal said, “Goa’s biggest problem is corruption and slow assault on Goan tradition and culture.”
