MARGAO: Fatorda Police arrested 30-year-old Ramesh Sukraj, a Kerala native, accused of rape, as he tried to flee to Nepal. They police managed to get seven days police custody after producing him in the court on Monday.
The accused was working in a hotel near the SGPDA market and adjacent to the hotel, a lady was working. The lady’s 17-year-old niece used to visit her and the accused befriended her. On February 17, the accused took the minor and fled to Kerala where he lived with her for four days and had a physical relationship with her. After living in Kerala for four days, he brought the girl back to Margao and after dropping her, he disappeared.
Since returning to Goa, Ramesh was absconding and police were on the lookout for him. A police team headed by PSI Tulshidas Naik camped in Saharangpur in Uttar Pradesh close to the Nepal border as they received information that the accused would try to flee to Nepal.
After camping for around 10 days, the police arrested Ramesh and returned to Goa on Monday.
