MARGAO: Aam Admi South Goa candidate Swati Kerkar visited the fishing community affected by clam destruction in the Betul area and interacted with local fishermen community to understand their problems.
Kerkar along with AAP members met traditional fishermen Sitaram Kerkar, Amar Khavnekar and others who are residents of Rangalim, Betul. “The fishermen informed us that the clam fish had returned after a gap of 10 years. They had hoped to reap a harvest but it was destroyed due to pollutants. The total earning of the village from the clam fish harvesting was nearly two lakh per day. One fisherman harvested few clams from the riverbed which were mostly dead and rotten and showed it to AAP members”, she said.
She informed the fishermen that the Aam Aadmi Party is committed towards the welfare of the fishing community and will take up this issue with the higher authorities so that it is thoroughly investigated.
