Kerya residents fear trucks parked haphazardly could lead to fatal accidents

PONDA: Kerya Khandepar locals fear that the haphazard parking of trucks in the middle of the widened four-lane road at Kerya Curti could lead to fatal accidents.
They alleged that the trucks are parked in long queues in the middle of road.
They claimed that Government has undertaken the four-lane NH widening work from Kerya Khandepar to Curti which is progressing at a rapid pace. However, the widened road, which is under construction, is used by truck drivers to park their trucks that too in the middle of the road in a haphazard manner thereby obstructing and blocking the view of vehicles and this could result in fatal accidents.
The locals claimed that they had recently raised the issue at the Curti- Khandepar gram sabha and had demanded that the traffic cell clear the trucks parked in the middle of road and there is no action from authorities.
It may be recalled that in absence of truck terminus in the taluka for the past many years, drivers used to park their trucks along the NH at Dhavali, Farmagudi and Kerya-Curti roads. As the Government has undertaken four-lane widening of this road, the trucks from other states which transport industrial raw material and goods to Goa are facing parking problems. Left with no space, they illegally parking their vehicles in the middle of road.
