SATTARI: Farmers from Kevadem village in Sattari taluka have sold 17 tonnes of lady fingers to the Goa Horticulture Corporation in May this year.
This year, Kevadem farmers have got the good yield of lady fingers as compared to last year.
Last year, the yield was destroyed by the Yellow Vein Mosaic virus and the farmers had faced huge losses.
At that time the Kevadem farmers, who had grown lady fingers, had approached to the Valpoi Zonal Agriculture Office and had informed the officials that the yield was destroyed.
Later on, the officers visited the site and carried out an inspection and told the farmers that their yield got affected due to the Yellow Vein Mosaic virus.
“We had applied for the subsidy for lady fingers yield loss. Till date they didn’t get the subsidy for the yield loss,” said a farmer.
“This year we have grown the Radhika variety of lady fingers in our fields. We have bought that variety from Belgaum. We are all independent farmers. However, we are not getting any benefit from the Goa Agriculture Department, not even the demonstration and training session on how to grow lady fingers and other vegetables,” said Vinay Gawas, a farmer.
Kevadem village farmers have urged the Goa Government to provide training session, on how to grow vegetables through the ATMA.
