MARGAO, FEB 18 : Khadi and Village Industries Commission has offered to put up a state-of-the art Khadi Plaza in Goa if the local government makes available the required land.
That’s not all. The Commission has disclosed plans to introduce mobile khadi vans at the popular beaches in the state to popularize khadi products amongst visitors and locals.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the Goa Khadi Bazar 2011 at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, Commission Chairperson Kumud Ben Joshi said the Plaza could come up if land was made available by the Goa government.
Turning to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Ms Joshi said the Khadi Plaza can become a reality in Goa within two years if the government makes available the required land. It is learnt that the Commission is looking for land admeasuring 1,000 sq mts for the Khadi Plaza.
In his address, Goa Governor S S Sidhu emphasized the need to promote khadi products to bring about socio-economic change in the villages.
“Khadi can bring about socio-economic transformation in the village”, the Governor said, while asserting a lot needed to be achieved in the khadi sector. On the question of providing land for the Khadi Plaza, Governor Sidhu said the state government will do the needful in this regard.
In his address, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat underlined the need to give boost to production of khadi products as it had the potential to solve the employment problem.
Chairperson of Khadi Village Industries Board, Monica Dias, in her address, assured that the Board will continue to attain more heights in the overall development of the Khadi and Village Industries sector in the state. “The Goa KVIB has acquired premises to set up a sub-office-cum-marketing outlet of KVI products at Fatorda,” she added.
