PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has ordered in favour of Mandre Vikas Parishad’s College and quashed the government’s cancellation of administrative approval.
Chairman of the parishad, Congress leader Ramakant Khalap said, “The High Court has reinstated original approval of our college on grant-in-aid basis, we, therefore, are entitled to grants and I hope that the new government will expeditiously release the grants as well.”
In 2013 the government had withdrawn administrative approval to the commerce and economics college and also refused to give grants in 2014 which was subsequently challenged in the HC. The HC had directed interim relief to the college in June 2016. Following this the college had admitted 60 students in the first year commerce stream (BCom) from June onwards. The college achieved 100 percent results in 2014-15 and 90 percent in 2015-16.
Khalap said, “I dedicate this victory to our students, parents, well wishers, people of Mandrem and Pernem taluka, in fact people of Goa, members of the Sangharsh Samiti, teachers, MLAs who supported us and our senior counsel Surendra Desai.”
He alleged that former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had caused injustice to the college and tried to close down the institute for political benefit.
