Khanapur truck drivers rush to Ponda Police Station

Complain that the Ponda-based contractor, who hired their trucks for transporting sugarcane from Sanjivani failed to clear their pending bills amounting to Rs 20 lakh; Contractor assures to clear the bills within eight days

PONDA: Around 15 truck drivers from Khanapur-Karnataka rushed to the Ponda Police Station complaining that the Ponda-based contractor, who hired their trucks for transporting sugarcane from Sanjivani factory had failed to clear their pending bills amounting to Rs 20 lakh for past seven months.

The police called up the contractor, who later assured to clear the pending bills of Khanapur truck owners within eight days.

The truck drivers came to Goa after learning that Sanjivani had cleared the contractor’s bills. However, despite this, the contractor failed to clear their bills, which irked the truck owners who rushed to the Ponda Police Station.

The truck owners said they were silent on the delay in clearing their pending bills due to COVID pandemic. However, as they learnt that the administrations of both Laila and Sanjivani factories had cleared the contractor’s payment for transporting sugarcane, the Khanapur truck owners rushed to Goa with regards to non-payment of their bills.

The truck owners complained of receiving only a part of the payment and added that the Ponda-based contractor was yet to clear their pending amounting to Rs 20 lakh.
