BELGAUM: Residents of Khanapur taluka in Belgaum are upbeat following Union Minister for Tourism Shripad Naik’s assurances to develop tourism in Khanapur taluka.
People of Khanapur taluka, are now hopeful that the minister’s promises would put Khanapur taluka on the world tourist map.
Naik, who was in Belgaum on Sunday to perform Ganga puja on the banks of river Malaprabha near Asoga village, stated that he would initiate measures to promote tourist hot spots in Khanapur taluka, which is blessed with nature’s bounty.
“Khanapur taluka, with its lush green forests, beautiful river banks and rich biodiversity will be a boon to tourists not only from Goa but also from other parts of the nation. Special funds will be released to develop the tourist spots here, including the river banks of Asoga as tourist spots,” assured Naik, giving renewed assurance to the people of taluka.
Naik requested the leaders of Khanapur taluka to inform him about all potential spots that could be promoted for tourism and he assured to personally ensure that all those spots are developed with central funds.
Reacting to assurances by Naik, former MLA Prahlad Remani said, “This is for the first time that the people of Khanapur taluka have received an assurance from the centre. This will be a huge boost to Khanapur taluka, which has been lagging in development.”
Added Jordan Gonsalves, a social activist from Khanapur, “Apart from natural beauty, Khanapur taluka also has places of religious importance.
