PONDA: The PWD has begun repairs on the old and weakened Khandepar bridge, which is the major bridge along the national highway 4A linking Belgaum and Goa.
Acting on a Herald report, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar inspected the weak Khandepar bridge along with PWD officials recently and directed the PWD officials to commence repair work at the bridge.
Claiming that the bridge is safe, Mamledar said the narrow bridge had been widened slightly as the PWD had shifted the pipeline from the footpath to the protection wall of the bridge.
“The proposal for a new bridge is in the final stages and as soon as the Central government grants its approval, the foundation for the new bridge will be laid most likely on December 19,” Mamledar added.
