Khariwado residents want area to be de-notified in 24 hours

Say no active COVID case in the area; Mormugao Dy Collector maintains that decisions will be taken based on S Collector's order

VASCO: Khariwado residents along with Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Monday met Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Desai demanding that their area be de-notified within 24 hours claiming that there was no active COVID case in the area. 

Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Desai maintained that the decisions will be taken based on the South Goa Collector’s order.

After meeting the Mormugao Deputy Collector, the Vasco MLA informed media persons that he along with Khariwado residents put forth their demands before the Deputy Collector to de-notify the Khariwado area from the containment zone as there are no CoVID cases since many days.

He said, “We have demanded to open the Khariwado area. Deputy Collector has informed us that he will submit his findings to the South Goa Collector and by Tuesday we will get to know the decision.”

Some Khariwado locals, who attended the meeting, said, “People from the area, which is fishing community dominated area, have suffered a lot due to the containment zone for last one month. Other areas such as Baina, Sada and Mangor were de-notified. Similarly, we have asked the Deputy Collector to free our Khariwado area too within 24 hours.” 

Meanwhile, Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Desai informed that there was a meeting to discuss the status of the Khariwado containment zone area. 

“On Sunday, I along with the Deputy Collector visited the Khariwado containment zone. I will submit my report and findings to the South Goa Collector and based on his orders, further decisions will be taken,” he added.
