Revenue Minister and Porvorim legislator Rohan Khaunte has urged the locals to be responsible citizens to maintain cleanliness in a bid to achieve clean Porvorim.
“Everybody remembers the rights but forgets their duties. It is the duty of each and every citizen to ensure surroundings are clean. If all maintain discipline, there won’t be any problem in achieving clean Porvorim,” he said addressing an event ‘Mission SAS (Segregation At Source)’ ‑ Swachh Porvorim on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Monday.
A joint initiative by three village panchayats of Penha De Franca, Salvador do Mundo and Soccoro; and supported by the minister, saw experts explaining the attendees on the segregation of dry and wet waste.
Speaking further, Khaunte also revealed an upcoming plan to set up a cattle pound at Soccoro to get rid of dog menace that Porvorkars have been complaining about for several years. “In Soccoro, the Serula Comunidade has allotted 5000 sq mtrs of land wherein we plan to develop cattle pound. There is dog menace and stray cattle roaming around Porvorim. The dogs will be sterilised and housed at the proposed structure,” he added.
The villagers were distributed two bins for wet and dry waste.
