PANJIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has directed the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) and Goa Tourism to complete the restoration of Dona Paula jetty at a faster pace, to reopen the venue for tourists from across the globe.
The minister, accompanied by Tourism Director Menino D’Souza, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Managing Director Nikhil Desai, and other concerned officials inspected the ongoing works at the jetty on Wednesday.
Khaunte said he wishes to promote the jetty in the right sense as it holds a special place in the hearts of Goans and visitors from India and abroad.
“We need to promote this iconic place in the right direction. We will hold a meeting of the departments along with the local MLA for this purpose. We will discuss to ensure the work is completed at the earliest,” he told reporters.
“It has been sentimentally and emotionally connected with every Goan. Such places need to be promoted properly. It’s time to get focused on infrastructure creation and boost its promotion. This is a special place for domestic and international tourists,” he further said.
The State is also looking at the matter from the legal point of view as some part is sub judice even as parking place is a problem.
