PORVORIM: Having lashed out at the North District Magistrate for having kept him in the dark over a no-parking zone along the highway at Porvorim, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has now expressed displeasure with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for failing to consult him regarding the two flyovers planned at Porvorim.
“In a democratic set up, planning needs to be done by collective participative decisions, but I was not consulted by the chief minister when the government took the decision regarding the two flyovers planned at Porvorim,” said Khaunte.
“I feel that the government should make a separate corridor or lane for heavy vehicular traffic passing outside the residential areas of Porvorim.”
“Since massive investment of about Rs 350 crore is involved in the construction of a bridge and flyovers, the government should relook at the feasibility of the bridges and the flyovers and should finalize the project after collective participative decision,’ said Khaunte.
Khaunte informed that the service road under construction at Porvorim will ease the traffic congestion on the highway.
Since traffic has increased in Porvorim, internal roads will also be widened and footpaths will be made for the pedestrians.
It may be recalled that Khaunte had criticised the decision to declare the stretch of highway from Betim (Malim) circle to O’Coqueiro as a ‘no-parking’ zone and had denounced the move as a haphazard decision.
