PANJIM: At the backdrop of Dudhsagar Falls incident wherein 40 tourists were rescued after a cable bridge collapsed, the Congress on Saturday has slammed Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte for failing to put in place safety measures across various touristic locations.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar on Saturday urged Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte to put in place a tourist safety and security policy on priority.
He said that there is no system in place to monitor activities at various touristic locations in the State, which has resulted in indiscipline and fatal accidents.
Patkar alleged that lot of illegalities are happening on the beaches and other tourist destinations with the blessings of people in power.
“Tourism Minister should set his priorities right before trying to please crony capitalists,” he said alleging corruption in event management, marketing and promotional events of Tourism Department.
Speaking further, the Congress president raised questions over failed projects and policies of the Tourism Department.
“Why Tourism Policy is not implemented effectively, what happened to the Goa Tourism Master Plan, Swadesh Darshan Projects, hot air balloons, amphibian vehicle, hop-on hop-off buses, helicopters and sea planes? Tourism Minister must first give answers to these projects which were launched by the BJP government,” he demanded.
