Khola gram sabha unanimously resolves to nix proposed fishmeal project

CANACONA: During the gram sabha of Khola panchayat held on Sunday, the proposed fishmeal project at Paryemoll faced stiff opposition from the locals. A resolution against the project was unanimously passed through a show of hands, echoing previous protests citing potential threats to orchards, farms, and forestry in the village.

Key attendees at the meeting included Sarpanch Krushna Velip, Deputy Sarpanch Pandhari Prabhudesai, and Panch Members Krupesh Velip, Ajay Pagi, Pradnya Kamat, Tejal Pagi, Priyanka Prasad Velip, and Priyanka Pavitra Velip. The Block Development Officer (BDO) official Madhav Pagi was also present.

Issues such as poor water supply occurring every two days and the pending repair of damaged pipelines were raised by locals. Suggestions were made for the panchayat to organise a joint meeting with the Public Health Engineering department, and a proposal to display contact information of PHE staff for immediate assistance.

Another concern brought forward was the existence of illegal kayaking services at Saleri-Khola offering services at exorbitant rates. However, the resolution leaned towards supporting and safeguarding local youth-driven businesses.

A written complaint by Prashant Kholkar sought the demolition of an ongoing construction near Kamarkhale road. The deputy sarpanch clarified that permission was granted for renovating the traditional route used by Shigmotsav and Tisaal festival marches.

The panchayat also passed a congratulatory resolution to honour five athletes from Vaagon-Khola who excelled at the recently concluded 37th National Games. Sarpanch Velip announced that the athletes would be felicitated on December 19.
