QUEPEM: The water level in the Khusawati river rose dangerously ringing alarm bells in Paroda village. There has been no respite from the downpour for over the last 48 hours with the overflowing waters submerging areas near the Parvat bus-stop.

At around 11 in the morning, the rising waters began to flow over the Paroda bridge that links Avedem-Cotombi to Margao-Quepem thus submerging the area during the high tide.
Traffic from Margao to Quepem, Curchorem and Sanguem had to be diverted through Chandor as most of the roads here were completely flooded.
Late night reports stated that the flood waters kept swelling thus spreading the panic button among villagers who stood helplessly as more and more areas here were being submerged.
The Paroda bridge traces its history to post the liberation period during Bandodkar’s tenure. The height of the bridge is so low that some villagers risk their lives to retrieve coconuts from the swollen waters the during monsoons.
