‘Kidnapped’ boy traced by Canacona Police; handed over to parents

MARGAO: Even as parents of a 14-yr-old boy from Salcete lodged a complaint with the police that their son was allegedly kidnapped by  unknown persons from their rented room, the reality has now come to light that he had disappeared on July 12 in search of job to support his family.

Police investigations revealed that the missing boy had confided in his friend that as he came from an economically backward family, he wanted to reach out to his parents by taking up a job.

“He didn’t attend school that day but infact, took his cycle and left home for Canacona in search of a job,” the boy’s friend told police.

It may be recalled that the boy had failed to return home on July 12 after  school and his frantic parents then lodged a complaint with the Cuncolim police on July 13.

PSI Kavita Rawat  registered the offence under section  137 (2) BNS and section  8(2) of Goa Children’s Act, 2003 and investigated the case. Wireless messages with description of the boy were sent to all police stations in Goa and other nearby states.

The boy was finally traced and detained by the Canacona police much to the relief of his parents. Legal formalities were performed before handing him over to his family.
