Kidney Walk creates awareness of ailments

PANJIM: Manipal Hospitals, Goa in association with IMA, Tiswadi organized a ‘Kidney Walk’ on Saturday morning with an aim to create awareness, early detection and prevention of kidney ailments.

PANJIM: Manipal Hospitals, Goa in association with IMA, Tiswadi organized a ‘Kidney Walk’ on Saturday morning with an aim to create awareness, early detection and prevention of kidney ailments. The walk started at 8 am from Panjim Church and culminated at Kala Academy. 
“Manipal Hospitals Goa has been conducting various activities to increase the level of awareness, as kidney ailments have seen a sharp rise in Goa. We are committed to providing excellence in medical and surgical care of all types of kidney diseases,” Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of Clinical Services & Head of Oncology Department at Manipal Hospitals Goa & Chairman Goa Medical Council said.
Salkar, also Chairman of Goa Medical Council said the treatment and procedures at the hospital is patient centric that provides excellent continuity of care from the inpatient to the outpatient setting. “We maintain consistent communication with your physicians or other healthcare providers,” he added.
The walk was flagged off by Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado, along with North Goa SP Umesh Gaonkar, Dean of Goa Medical College & Hospital Dr Pradeep Naik in the presence of Dr Shekhar Salkar, Medical Superintendent at Manipal Hospitals Goa Dr Gautam Das and IMA Tiswadi President Dr V N Jindal.
IMA Tiswadi Secretary and Consultant Nephrologist at Manipal Hospitals Goa Dr Amol Mahaldar said that kidney ailments affect millions of people worldwide and hence it’s a matter of great concern and due importance must be given towards preventive kidney care and adopting healthy lifestyle. 
“Kidneys have the important function of keeping the blood clean, maintaining balance of salt and minerals in the body and thus keeping blood pressure in check. Loss of kidney function is a serious and potentially fatal condition and thus they must never be neglected,” he cautioned.
