Killer driver in Vagator accident case sent to 14 days judicial custody

PANJIM: Four days after the tragic accident at Vagator, which snuffed out the life of 57-year-old resort owner, the accused driver Sachin Venu Gopal Kurup was sent to 14 days judicial custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa on Thursday.

The accused was in police custody for the last four days. As his police custody ended on Thursday, he was produced before the JMFC, who remanded him in judicial custody.

Remedia Maria Albuquerque, the proprietor of Roma Resort in Vagator, was standing at the entrance of her resort when she was struck by the Haryana-registered vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road, crashed through the gates, and pinned her against the pillar when she was engaged in a phone conversation. The accident had also resulted in injuring two employees of the resort as well.

Kurup, a native of Pune, was arrested for allegedly driving the SUV in drunken stupour in a rash and negligent manner and causing the death. Police later sent the accused for an alcohol and drug test to the Goa Medical College.
