CALANGUTE: Suchana Seth, the AI start-up CEO accused of allegedly murdering her four-year-old son on January 6-7 night at Candolim, was on Friday remanded in judicial custody till January 31 by the juvenile court, Panjim, according to Calangute police.
Seth had been arrested by Karnataka police in Chitradurga district on January 8 after she had been nabbed with her four-year-old son’s body in a bag while on her way to Bengaluru after committing the murder at Candolim in a service apartment where she had checked in on January 6.
After her arrest in Chitradurga, she had been brought to Calangute police station on January 9 and remanded in police custody for six days by the JMFC Mapusa.
After the expiry of six days custody, she had again been remanded in police custody for five days by the juvenile court in Panjim on January 15 when Calangute police said she was not co-operating with the investigations.
Calangute police said on Friday that even though the evidence indicates that she killed her son, she continues to deny that she committed the crime and is yet to confess to the murder. She has also not shown any regrets for taking the life of her own child.
Soon after her arrest, Seth had been taken to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour at Bambolim where doctors have opened that she is in good mental health and does not have any mental illness, police said.
Calangute police said investigations have revealed that she had been having marital problems with her husband Venkat Raman and the divorce case between the two is pending in a family court in Bengaluru and the hearings are going on over the custody of their son Chinmay, who is now deceased.
As a temporary arrangement, the court had passed an order on November 20, 2023 that the custody of their son Chinmay should be given to the father every Sunday. Following this, the father met the son on the next three Sundays.
But after the first three meetings, the wife did not allow him to meet the child. This went on for the next few weeks and the last meeting was to take place on January 7 when the father once again waited at the predetermined venue from 10am to 11am.
On that Sunday, Suchana Seth was in Candolim with the dead body of her son in a service apartment hotel.
Calangute police had recorded Venkat Raman’s statement last Saturday. During her police custody, she took tea, coffee, and ordered sandwiches, fish-curry-rice and chicken meals, police said.
