The family of late Garu Pundalik Naique, only discovered recently that he had expired after news surfaced about his mortal remains being kept at a morgue in Kuwait. NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar is assisting the family with the necessary formalities at the Indian Embassy

CURCHOREM:  It’s been a hectic and emotional week for the Naique family at Curchorem.  Earlier this month, one of the family members, Garu Pundalik Naique, who was residing in Kuwait, passed away. However, Naique, for personal reasons, had lost contact with his family back in Goa. Unfortunately; they did not get to hear about his demise as soon as it happened.
Instead, they were only recently informed, by someone known to them, who had read the news on a mobile message.
“We got to know when someone informed us about the incident. My son Sagar has now gone to complete the necessary formalities to bring his body back,” said Rohidas Naik, the elder brother of the deceased.
According to report appeared in the news portal, as per his passport details, the 62-year-old late Garu, is the son of Pundalic Naique and Gomathi. His mortal remains have been kept at a morgue in Kuwait for a week as officials are waiting for his relatives or friends to identify him.  As per his documents, he never returned back to India for the last 26 years for vacations.
Speaking about how the family lost ties, Rohidas, who resides at Kamral, Curchorem, said that the late Garu is his younger brother, among four brothers and one sister. He said that (late) Garu used to earlier stay with his maternal aunt at Kakoda.
“My aunt was working in Kuwait. She then took him abroad around 37 years back and since then, he was working there. But when my aunt expired in Goa, we did not inform him and that might have angered him and from then onwards, he never returned to Goa and never spoke to us,” added Naique.
His son Sagar stated that he had spoken to NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar for assistance regarding communication with the Indian Embassy. Sawaikar, the former South Goa MP said that he had asked Sagar to collect all the authenticated documents, which are required to complete the required formalities, following which they will coordinate with the Indian Embassy regarding the same.
