Kiosks, handcarts mushrooming in Port Town, says activist

VASCO: Not all seems to be well in Port Town, as some migrants are trying to spread their hands by doing illegal business without taking any permission from the concerned authorities.

Several controversial kiosks/carts have been mushroomed in a month from nowhere, what steps have the local governing body taken to curb such illegalities asked an activist Preetam Queloscar.

“There have been several violations and illegalities taking place in Mormugao Municipal Council areas, be it parking, encroachments of footpath, illegal scrap yards and so on. In a similar scenario, several kiosks/carts near GRB Colony, Sada Sub Jail, around four kiosks have cropped up all of a sudden,” he informed.

“Being on third road junction, Sada, I don’t know how these migrants get such permissions to run kiosks. I am sure these carts and kiosks are illegal. I have seen one ‘gadda’ selling ‘panipuri’ in the evening which is totally unhygienic. I request concerned authorities to remove these carts at the earliest as at night most of the illegal activities takes place there which is dangerous to the respected people staying in and around,” Queloscar opined.

He further mentioned that there was one horticulture outlet operational since few years but past one month all of a sudden some structures were seen coming up. Two handcarts also operate at night. This is how illegalities are taking place in Port Town and I feel MMC must immediately act on it.

When contacted, MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut said that he was unaware about such illegalities, but quickly added that he will send the staff for inspection of these sites and after taking a report, necessary action will be initiated.
