MARGAO: A kite festival held by a Kanpur-based builder at Orlim drew strong protests from the residents of Orlim waging a battle against mega housing projects in the village.
Stating that kite flying culture is alien to the locals, the villagers expressed their determination to continue their movement against the housing projects. “For the last three years, we have been fighting against the mega housing project at Palcutta coming up in the fields. Instead of scrapping the project, the builder is holding a kite festival in the locality. We are against the project,” said a local activist woman.
Kim Miranda, another activist, echoed similar sentiments saying kite festival is an alien concept in the village and accused the builder of forcing an alien tradition on the locals. She said the villagers have been opposing the construction of 66 flats and a swimming pool at the project site. “We cannot have a mega project like in this in a village where people still finds problem with the water supply,” she added.
