BELGAUM: Karnataka Lingayat Education Society (KLES) that runs KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital and more than 100 institutions in India and abroad including the SMRC in Goa, began its centenary celebrations on February 5. The society was established in 1916 and Dr Prabhakar Kore has been at its helm for the last 25 years. Speaking to Herald, Dr Kore thanked the people of Goa in a special way for their valued contribution to the society and the institutions over the years and said that as a mark of gratitude, the society plans to start a school of in Goa shortly, to reach out to the people of Goa during the centenary year to understand their opinion and expectation from the society.
He also urged people of Goa to contact the society and present their expectations on how the society could be of assistance to them.
“The celebrations commenced with a rally in Belgaum that was flagged off by former Indian Cricket Captain Anil Kumble where a large number of ex-students took part. The rally commenced at the fort lake and culminated near the KLES office at College Road. On February 6, former Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar will inaugurate the advanced agricultural research center Krishi Vigyan Kendra near Belgaum at 10 am; 500 bed charitable hospital at 4 pm and KLES International Convention Centre in the premises of the JN Medical College premises.
A swimming pool and a FM radio station would also be inaugurated, informed Kore. Expressing his gratitude to the people of Goa Dr Kore said that the society plans to start an international school near Ponda in five acres of land. He said a meeting would be held with the people of Goa to understand their expectations from the society.
