MARGAO: In a violent incident at a bar in Zuarinagar, four youths armed with weapons attacked Manjunath Navali, 28, and his nephew Sharvan Kumar, 22, with a knife and a glass tumbler, causing serious injuries. Both victims were taken to Goa Medical
College (GMC) in Bambolim, with Manjunath, a kabbadi player, being hospitalised for treatment of his wounds.
Following a complaint lodged by Manjunath’s brother Mallappa Navali, 34, the Verna police registered an offence under Section 326 read with Section 34 of the IPC. The incident occurred on May 28, around 11 PM.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the four men thrashing and stabbing the two victims. Sources say all of them were
from the same neighbouhood in Zuarinagar, and clashed over some previous enmity.
Verna police have arrested one of the accused, Rangappa Bhimappa Kamal, 42. Kamal was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Margao, and a two-day remand was granted for his interrogation. The other three accused, Shivanand Heregaudar, Yuvraj
Chimbal, and Dipak Hiremati, all residents of Birla, Zuarinagar, are currently absconding.
The police are investigating the motive behind the attack and are on the hunt for the weapons used in the assault. The investigation is being led by PI Melson Colaco.
Narayan Naik, a senior citizen, expressed shock over the brutal attack. “ Muscle power and goondagiri are on the rise. The police should keep strict watch on these elements and book them under preventive measures,” he said.
