Konkan Fruit Fest from May 8 to 10

PANJIM: The Botanical Society of Goa celebrates its silver jubilee day this year with the 11th annual Konkan Fruit Fest from May 8 to 10, at the promenade along D B Bandodkar Road, Campal, Panjim.

The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and the Western Ghats Kokum Foundation (WGKF), Panjim, are the festival partners, while NABARD has agreed to have the Farmers’ Clubs participate in the event. 
The two events will be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar followed by music played by Panjim Open Philharmonic group. On Sunday CCP will move the Bandstand event to this venue.
The ICAR Central Coastal Agriculture Research Institute, Goa, the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru; the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru; the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot; and  DBSKKV’s Regional Fruit Research Station, Vengurla, have confirmed their participation in the Konkan Fruit Fest this year. A number of stalls have been booked by regular participants from Goa and the Konkan region from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala since 2003. 
The Botanical Society of Goa conducted the 22nd all Goa Home Garden Competition (Ornamental gardens with at least 25 per cent area devoted to vegetable cultivation) earlier this year. The prizes were given to the following: Jointly to  Dr Rekha Mallya, Ponda and Maria Rosaria Miranda, Margao; Terrency Luis, Verna and Lizarda & Agnelo Mendonsa, Pirazona-Moira;  Idalina Viegas, Mangor, Vasco and Piyush Sinha, Chicalim. For terrace garden to Abheeda Baretto, Gogol Margao.
