MARGAO: Konkan Railway Police have successfully arrested three individuals on Wednesday, for robbing and assaulting a Konkan Railway Engineer at Margao railway station on Monday. The incident occured while the engineer was on duty. The incident involved three notorious individuals who were later identified and apprehended by authorities.
The accused were identified as Samir Bepari, 26, from Navelim, native of Hubli, Karnataka; Kasim Kundagan, 23, from Old Hubli, Karnataka and Sadiq Nalband, 22, Old Hubli, Karnataka.
The perpetrators were arrested at at 00:55 am at the Konkan Railway Police Station in Margao.
According to the complaint lodged by Mithun Raj KK, a 33-year-old engineer, hailing from Belgavi, Karnataka, and originally from Kerala, the incident occurred at 10pm on February 26. Mithun Raj was on his way to the Swami Vivekanand Railway Holiday Home at an isolated platform (Platform No. 06) at Margao Railway Station, when he was accosted by four unknown individuals aged between 20 to 30 years.
The assailants assaulted Mithun Raj with fist blows and slaps, using criminal force. They forcibly took Rs 1000 in cash and a railway emergency duty pass from his wallet. Subsequently, they took him to a nearby Bank of India ATM, where they compelled him to withdraw Rs 5000. Additionally, they took away his shoulder bag. The total value of stolen property amounted to Rs 6650.
The incident underscores the need to enhance security measures at railway stations to ensure the safety of passengers and even the railway staff.
