MARGAO: Konkan Railway Police recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 14.3 lakh from one Nasim alias Salim Khan, 56, from Pipradih village in Chandrapura, Bokro district, Jharkhand, in alleged connection with major theft cases reported in running trains.
Konkan Railway Police, DySP Gurudas Kadam who is supervising the investigation of the major theft case, said that his team recovered 269 grams of gold stolen from the ladies’ hand bag worth Rs7.46 lakh. Another 36 smart phones of different brands, five ladies handbags and few more gold items amounting to Rs 14.3 lakh. He said that owners of 36 mobile phones seized have not been identified as yet and investigation is in progress.
He said that all the stolen gold ornaments and mobiles have been recovered from the accused’s rented room at Alto-Dabolim,Vasco. Police said that the alleged accused has admitted to having committed many more similar offences in the last three to four months in the train.
His modus operandi was he would board the train at Karwar Railway Station with a big size shopping bag and would target the ladies purses while travelling from Karwar to Margao and thereafter and hide the same in his shopping bag and alight from the train at Margao railway station and vice versa.
Khan was produced before JMFC Court, Margao and four days police remand was taken.
