Konkan Railway to provide charging facility for EVs at Margao rly station

MARGAO: Taking note of the shortfalls pertaining to charging stations for electric vehicles (EV), Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has now stepped in to provide the facility at the Margao railway station.

Baban Ghatge, Chief Public Relation Officer, KRCL on Wednesday told Herald that the KRCL has floated a tender to establish electric vehicle charging solution at Margao.

It is pertinent to note that a day before Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai had raised the issue of electric vehicles, especially with regard to KTC electric buses and charging stations in the ongoing Assembly session. He had said that electric buses are easy to maintain. There was a lengthy debate on the issue too.

However, while on one hand there are very few charging stations in Goa, on the other hand purchase of electric vehicles is on the rise. Now the KRCL has decided to step in and start with the charging station at Margao.

“This charging solution will be established at Margao Railway station in the parking area so that it will be easy to charge the vehicles. Electric vehicles are the future not only with regard to maintenance but in protecting the environment,” Ghatge said.

He further said that the last date of submission of tenders is August 22 and the tender will be opened on the same day.

Meanwhile, Roland Martins, Convenor of GOACAN appealed the people to avail the subsidy under the Goa Electric Mobility Promotion Policy 2021.
