Authorities term it as illegal
MARGAO, OCT 6
Commercial assistants and passenger assistants of Konkan Railway went on flash strike at the Margao railway station on Wednesday evening, which was promptly termed as illegal by the KRC authorities.
The employees under the banner of National Railway Mazdoor Union resorted to a flash strike in protest against the transfer of the commercial and passengers assistants by the KRC management. They pointed out that the transfer orders are arbitrary and have not even given enough time to take their new postings. “This is a democratic country and the principles of natural justice demands that the workers are given time to take their postings”, asserted Krishna Kumar of the Railway Mazdoor Union.
The Konkan Railway Corporation, however, termed the agitation as illegal, adding that the commercial and passengers assistants have adopted illegal agitation techniques to evade the transfer orders. “This is unbecoming of the public servant and hence are liable to be taken up under the Disciplinary and Appeal Rules”, warned KRC Public Relations Manager, Siddheshwar Telugu.
While regretting the inconvenience caused to the traveling public, Telugu warned that that strict and stringent action will be initiated against those Commercial and Passenger Assistants who do not perform their legitimate duties and do not carry out their routine Transfer Orders. “These Transfer Orders are mandatory & inescapable as the Compliance Report in this regard is required to be submitted to the Central Vigilance Commission,” he added.
He pointed out that staff holding sensitive posts in terms of instructions by the Central Vigilance Commission and dealing with public are required to be transferred on a rotation basis as they are not be retained at the same station or place of work for more than four years.
“About 19 Commercial Assistants & 34 Passenger Assistants in Ratnagiri and Madgaon have been working at the same post / station / place on these sensitive posts for more than 12 to 13 years. In order to comply with the CVC Guidelines, their routine Inter-Regional Transfers were issued by the Administration with all eligible benefits admissible on such transfers”, Telugu added.
