MARGAO: Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL) will soon offer a pod or capsule concept accommodation facility for train passengers at the Margao Railway Station. KRCL has invited bids for establishment, operations, and management of the sleeping pod facility at the station. Pods or capsules are small-sized bedrooms with basic amenities.
t is to be noted that pod accommodation is a new concept, which was first introduced in Japan. It is already functional in Indian railway stations such as Mumbai and Chennai and is soon to be unveiled at the Udupi railway station too. A pod hotel concept is aimed at providing an alternate solution to those who need to find accommodation near the station and rest for a few hours before boarding another train, or continuing their travel . While the other hotels will have standard check-in and check-out time, the pod accommodation facility can be utilised for 6,12,18 or 24 hours based on passengers’ requirements, similar to a pay-as-you-go facility.
It may be recalled that the KRCL had recently inaugurated a revamped ‘Executive Lounge’ at Margao railway station, offering a 1,700-square-foot fully air-conditioned space, equipped with various amenities including Wi-Fi, reading gallery, shower facilities, sleeping pods, food zone, charging outlets, and more, aiming to enhance the travel experience and comfort for rail commuters. Passengers can access these executive lounge facilities for two hours at a cost of Rs 50 (exclusive of taxes).
